Report of the EU Expert Groups ‘Sport, Health and Participation’ and ‘Sustainable Financing of Sport’
The Expert Group on Sport, Health and Participation has the mandate to explore ways to promote health-enhancing physical activity and participation in grassroots sport and to identify respective measures by mid-2013. In its work schedule, the Group agreed on five deliverables to fulfil its mandate. The first three deliverables were finalised at the Group’s 3rd meeting on 27 June 2012. They have subsequently been submitted to the Council Working Party on Sport, meeting on 4 July, and were presented there orally by the Group’s Chairman.
The Expert Group on Sustainable Financing of Sport is mandated by the Council to recommend ways to strengthen financial solidarity mechanisms within sport. The Group, in its work schedule, agreed to give a broad interpretation to this mandate and to look into all aspects that affect such solidarity mechanisms. The Group bases its work on the recent EU Study on the Funding of Grassroots Sport. The Group held its 2nd meeting on 22 May 2012 in Brussels.
